Welcome to Enolovers! As you know, we are the first app designed to bring together and offer wine tourism experiences in Spain.
Wine tourism is a fantastic experience, and if you’re new to this world and don’t know where to start, we’ve put together some tips so you can fully enjoy your wine getaway.
1.- Research your wine destination
The first thing you need to do is a little prep work. Look up information about the region you’re visiting, find out which are the standout wineries, their typical grape varieties, what types of wines they produce, and all the activities they offer… The wine tourism offering in Spain is so wide that you’re sure to find the exact plan you’re looking for. And Enolovers.app lets you do it the easy way!
In our country, we have an extensive range of wine regions, from Designations of Origin (D.O.) to Pagos and Protected Geographical Indications… You can start with larger wineries or the most recognized wine routes to get an introduction and a broader view of the wine world and wine tourism experiences.
2.- Don’t forget to book in advance
If you’re new to this, you’ll be surprised by how many people sign up to enjoy wine tourism experiences. Remember to book your tastings, tours, and other activities in advance. We recommend joining guided tours as they are usually the best way to learn about the entire winemaking process, from the vineyard to the bottle. Take advantage of these tours to get insider info from experts and ask all the questions that come to mind. Winery guides are there to help you. Don’t hesitate to ask about the winemaking process, the region’s history, grape varieties, food pairings, etc.
During tastings, keep an open mind and try different types of wine, learning to appreciate the nuances of aroma, flavor, and body of each one, without focusing on a single type. Ultimately, variety is the best way to get to know wines and discover what you actually love.
3.- Prepare your trip
After choosing your destination based on your wine preferences, weather, and additional tourist activities, it’s time to plan your trip.
Choose the best way to get there. You can opt for flights, trains, or rental cars, just remember the golden rule… ‘If you drink, don’t drive’. Next, book accommodation close to the wineries and vineyards you plan to visit. Keep in mind that some wineries even offer their own lodging!
4.- USE THE TRIP TO UNPLUG
A trip designed to enjoy a wine tourism experience is also about the need to disconnect from the world and everyday stress. Remember to live in the moment and be present. Turn off your phone and only use it to capture memories through photos and videos that you can print or share on social media later.
Breathe in the fresh air free of pollution, the smell of the vineyards, the aroma of wood and wine. Enjoy your experience with all five senses. Touch the leaves, the vine trunks… Remember that your attitude towards your wine activity will shape how you experience it.
5.- WINE TOURISM is not just about wine
Wine tourism is a fascinating and educational experience, so fully enjoy every moment—learning, tasting wines, and immersing yourself in the local culture. Discover the surroundings, the smells, the colors… every season is different and will give you a unique experience with every visit.
When looking for activities around the wineries to make wine tourism plans, you’ll discover there are plenty of other things to do in the area, like visiting museums, natural parks, or iconic local monuments.
6.- PAIRINGS MAKE EVERYTHING BETTER
When planning winery visits, you’ll notice many offer paired tastings or the chance to enjoy tasting menus paired perfectly with their wines.
Thanks to wine tourism, you can also enjoy the local gastronomy of many wine regions, as they all feature culinary delights that match their wines flawlessly. During your trip, you’ll be able to try local products and traditional dishes, discovering how they complement and blend with the wines of the area.
7.- Create your Wine Tourism logbook
You can even create a document or bring a mini notebook to record all your wine tourism experiences. Write down answers to your questions, the names of the wineries you visited, the wines you tasted, your favorites, winery addresses, a list of interesting places you discovered, the itinerary you followed… etc. Create your own Wine Tourism logbook to keep for yourself or share with friends, family, and followers on your social media.
8.- R-E-S-P-E-C-T
We shouldn’t even have to mention this, but we believe it’s important. Keep in mind that when you visit a winery or vineyard, these are workspaces as well as natural environments, so treat them with respect. Follow the rules set by the wineries, be aware of where you are, and respect everything around you.
9.- Extend the wine experience
Remember that you can buy wine at almost every winery you visit. This way, you don’t just take home a souvenir of your wine experience, but you can continue exploring and reviewing the differences between the wines you tasted—aromas, flavors, tones, acidity, sweetness—right from your living room. It will also let you discover wines you didn’t get to try during the visit, keeping the memory of your trip alive much longer.
10.- Enolovers on your phone
Enolovers is an app where you can find all the info about wine tourism experiences gathered in one place.
It’s a free mobile app that allows you to search, compare, and book wine tourism activities—mainly tours and tastings—at wineries across the country.
