A stop on the way to the Cerdanya (and a getaway that has it all)
Located in Sallent, right in the heart of Pla de Bages, Mas de la Sala is more than a hotel: it’s a strategic (and delicious) stop for anyone heading to the Cerdanya or looking for a wine getaway near Barcelona. Its location, next to the C-16 at kilometre 59, makes it easy to reach, yet it’s surrounded by peace, nature and lots and lots of wine.
Inside the DO Pla de Bages: a land of wine and tradition
This rural hotel is nestled in the Pla de Bages Designation of Origin, one of Catalonia’s most historic wine areas. Native varieties such as Picapoll are preserved here, and wine is made with loving care in small family wineries.
Mas de la Sala honours this tradition with a unique initiative: on its estate you’ll find vines of every variety permitted by the DO Pla de Bages, each sponsored by a local winery. A stroll through the vines… without leaving your hotel.
Surroundings that invite you to explore (or stay put)
You’re right in the middle of the Central Catalonia UNESCO Global Geopark, surrounded by walking and cycling routes among holm oaks and vineyards. You can visit wineries such as Abadal or Oller del Mas, lose yourself along the Dry-Stone Wine Vats Route (Ruta de les Tines), or pop over to the Monestir de Sant Benet de Bages, a historic monastery that played a key role in keeping vine growing alive during the Middle Ages.
Here, the countryside isn’t just scenery: it’s part of the soul of the wine.
Tastings with soul: the Christian Betoret touch
One of the hotel’s most highly rated experiences is its tastings guided by Christian Betoret, named Catalonia’s third-best sommelier in 2024. Trained at Escola Joviat and with experience at places like El Bulli, Christian turns every tasting into a journey. Whether you’re a beginner or know your DOs by heart, you’re going to learn and have a great time.

Includes:
- A journey through the history of the DO Pla de Bages.
- Tasting of three wines.
- Tasting of local olive oil.
🕒 Saturdays at 12:00 and weekdays at 11:00, always by prior booking.

The hotel’s history: 12th-century roots
Today’s hotel grew out of a historic masia (Catalan farmhouse) known as Hostal del Camp, documented since the 12th century. For centuries it was a stopping point and refuge for travellers and pilgrims. Today it’s still in the hands of the same family, run by three siblings, who have managed to transform the place into a 4-star hotel without losing its rural essence.
A blend of respect for the past and vision for the future. You can feel it in every corner.
Three cypress trees and an old-fashioned welcome
When you arrive, the first thing you’ll see is three cypress trees planted at the entrance. That’s no coincidence. In Catalan tradition, cypress trees planted at the entrance to a masia weren’t just for decoration: one meant drink was on offer, two meant there was food too, and three meant you could also stay the night. A simple, symbolic way of announcing hospitality.

There are three here. Which tells you that you’ve come to the right place.
The estate also still has a vineyard hut, an ice well, olive trees and other structures that tell the story of the area’s farming past.
